Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From sea-level - 3,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Venezuela.

Scattered and poorly known: in Central America, occurs primarily on Caribbean slope lowlands of Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama; recorded from Andes and associated lowlands in Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela; also cordilleras of northern Venezuela, and tepuis of southern Venezuela and Guyana.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with White-fronted Swift (Cypseloides storeri), and the two are sometimes considered conspecific. Another proposal suggests that present species might be conspecific with Rothschild's Swift (Cypseloides rothschildi) and Sooty Swift (Cypseloides fumigatus).

No subspecies.
