Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Cocos Cuckoo (Coccyzus ferrugineus), with which has been considered conspecific.
Up to 13 subspecies have been described, but these were all based on small samples; larger series now available show no constant differences in colour or size among island populations in West Indies, or between island and continental populations.
