Subspecies
Sometimes considered conspecific with Giant Wren (Campylorhynchus chiapensis), but very widely separated geographically.
The following 6 subspecies are recognised:
albicilius (Bonaparte, 1854) - Northern Colombia and north-western Venezuela (Macaraibo Basin, Falcón, Lara, western Trujillo).
bicolor (Pelzeln, 1875) - Upper Magdalena Valley and western slope of eastern Andes in Santander and Boyacá (Colombia).
minor (Cabanis, 1850) - Lowlands of northern Venezuela (Cojedes and Apure east to Sucre and Monagas, south to northern Bolívar) and eastern Colombia (Meta).
