Habitat
Temperate forest and shrubland.
Bahamas (NB), Turks and Caicos Islands (NB), USA (B).
Vagrant to Bermuda.
Unknown to Canada (B).
Breeds in north-central Michigan, in northern USA; migrates to Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Is.
 
Population
Estimated population is 2,500 (2010) and increasing.
Status NT
Habitat loss and degradation on the wintering ground is probably the main threat. Fire suppression and brood-parasitism by Brown-headed Cowbird (Molothrus ater ) may also be threats.

No subspecies.
Relationships within genus unclear. Possible hybrid between this species and Blackburnian Warbler (Setophaga fusca ) reported from Hispaniola.
