Proposed subspecies salita, from Caicos Is, inseparable from nominate.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

• evelynae (Bourcier, 1847)   -  Bahamas (except Inagua).
• lyrura (Gould, 1869)   -  Inagua. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Lyre-tailed Hummingbird (Nesophlox lyrura).
