Subspecies roraimae geographically remote from the other two, and treated as a separate species by some recent authors.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

  • roraimae (Lafresnaye & d'Orbigny, 1837)   -  Tepuis of southern Venezuela, western Guyana and northern Brazil. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Roraiman Warbler (Myiothlypis roraimae).
  • bivittata (d'Orbigny and Lafresnaye, 1837)   -  Eastern slope of central Andes from southern Peru south to central Bolivia.
  • argentinae (Zimmer, JT, 1949)   -  Eastern slope of Andes from south-central Bolivia south to northern Argentina.
