Subspecies
Genus often merged with Pipra. Probably a close relative of Golden-crowned Manakin (Lepidothrix vilasboasi).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

nattereri Sclater, 1865 - Central Brazil south of middle Amazon (from R Madeira, south to Calama, east to R Tapaj�s and its affluents).
gracilis (Hellmayr, 1903) - South-central Brazil from upper R Madeira (south of Calama) east to central Mato Grosso (east to upper R Xingu drainage), south to extreme north-eastern Bolivia (north-eastern Santa Cruz).
