Habitat
Subtropical and tropical high altitude shrubland. From 1,600 - 2,600 m.
Argentina, Bolivia.
Central and southern Bolivia to northern Argentina (Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán). Old record from Yungas of La Paz (north-western Bolivia).

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Genus sometimes merged into an expanded version of Calliphlox on the basis of morphological characters. However, probably best placed within Chaetocercus , as originally proposed.
