Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. Also, subtropical and tropical swamp forest, heavily degraded former forest. From sea-level - 1,000 m.
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru, Puerto Rico, Suriname.
Introduced to USA (B).
Amazon basin from south-eastern Colombia and north-eastern Peru through Brazil to coastal Pará, and northern into French Guiana. Feral populations in Lima, Peru, and on Puerto Rico and mainland USA.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).
