Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,050 - 3,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela.

Northern Colombia and north-western Venezuela southern along Andes to Ecuador, Peru and west-central Bolivia.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno), with which has sometimes been considered conspecific. White-tipped Quetzal (Pharomachrus fulgidus) may belong to same superspecies.
