Subspecies
No subspecies.
Has recently been treated, on basis of genetic, morphological and distributional evidence, as conspecific with or even synonymous with Forest Rock-Thrush (Monticola sharpei).
Forest Rock-Thrush (Monticola sharpei) and Benson's Rock Thrush (Monticola bensoni) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped into Monticola sharpei on the basis of evidence in Goodman and Weigt (2002) and Outlaw et al. (2007), plus a review of recordings of vocalisations by the BirdLife International. Not recognised as a species by BirdLife International.
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Forest Rock-Thrush (Monticola sharpei).
