Habitat
swampy areas, rushy pastureland, mudflats, pools and streams. Also in bunch-grass on hills, sometimes far from water. From 3,100 - 4,800 m.

Range (Guide)

Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru.

Highlands of central Peru south to Bolivia, extreme N3 hile and north-western Argentina; non breeding visitor to Peruvian coast.

Population
Estimated population is 10,000 - 15,000 (2010).
