Population
Estimated population is 7,500 - 10,000 (2010) and increasing.
Status LC
Forest destruction for wood, agriculture, grazing and human settlements, hunting and poisoning, nest predation by Black Rat Rattus rattus are the main threats.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Dark-tailed Laurel-pigeon (Columba bollii ) with which it is sometimes considered conspecific. Also related to Common Woodpigeon (Columba palumbus ), Afep Pigeon (Columba unicincta ) and probably White-tailed Laurel-pigeon (Columba junoniae ).
No subspecies.
