Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Jungle Nightjar (Caprimulgus indicus).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
jotaka Temminck & Schlegel, 1847 - South-eastern Siberia, east, central and southern China, Japan and Korea. Winters from southern China to Greater Sundas and Philippines. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Jungle Nightjar (Caprimulgus indicus).
hazarae Whistler, 1935 - North-eastern Pakistan eastern across Himalayas to north-eastern India, Bangladesh and southern China (Yunnan), south through Myanmar and Malay Peninsula. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Jungle Nightjar (Caprimulgus indicus).
