Forms a superspecies with Dja River Swamp-Warbler (Bradypterus grandis). These two, together with African Bush-Warbler (Bradypterus baboecala) and White-winged Scrub-Warbler (Bradypterus carpalis), make up a group of four swamp-dwelling Afrotropical species.

Similar Species
White-winged Scrub-Warbler (Bradypterus carpalis) which has white in wings and pale underparts. African Bush-Warbler (Bradypterus baboecala) which is smaller and paler. However, these species rarely, if ever, share the same marshes.
