Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist lowland and montane forest, subtropical and tropical dry and moist shrubland, dry savanna. From 900 - 2,000 m, occasionally up to 2,800 m.

Subspecies
Has been treated as conspecific with Mountain Thrush (Turdus plebejus), but probably not closely related.
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
goodfellowi Hartert & Hellmayr, 1901 - Andes of western Colombia.
ignobilis Sclater, 1857 - Andes of central and eastern Colombia.
debilis Hellmayr, 1902 - Eastern Colombia, western Venezuela, and western Amazonia in Brazil, eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru and northern Bolivia.
murinus Salvin, 1885 - Southern Venezuela and Guyana.
arthuri (Chubb, 1914) - Tepuis of south-eastern Venezuela, Guyana and Suriname.
