Subspecies
No subspecies.
Probably closest to Bougainville Crow (Corvus meeki), Brown-headed Crow (Corvus fuscicapillus) and Grey Crow (Corvus tristis), all apparently forming part of an "old endemic" Melanesian group. May form a superspecies with Bougainville Crow (Corvus meeki) and sometimes treated as conspecific, but differs in bill and eye colours, nature of nasal bristles, and plumage gloss.
Proposed subspecies vegetus (described from southern Santa Isabel) considered inadequately differentiated from those in rest of species' range.
