Subspecies
Genus formerly placed in its own separate family, Cyclarhidae. Sometimes placed in a subfamily, Cyclarhinae.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
nigrirostris Lafresnaye, 1842 - Upper tropical and subtropical zones of Colombia west of eastern Andes (excluding Santa Marta region and also Nariño) and of eastern slope in Ecuador (southern at least to central Napo).
atrirostris Sclater, PL, 1887 - Upper tropical zone in western Andes of southern Colombia (Nariño) and southern into Ecuador (southern generally to Pichincha, but at least one sighting has been reported as far southern as El Oro).
