Breeds southern and south-central Europe (southern from southern France, southern Germany, Austria, Romania), north-western Africa (Morocco east to Tunisia and north-eastern Libya),western Arabian Peninsula, and from Asia Minor, Caucasus and Near East (south to Israel) east to Iran, southern Russia (east to south-western Siberia) and northern Mongolia and, in south, to Himalayas (from Pakistan to Bhutan) and west, northern and south-central China; winters in Mediterranean region, northern and north-eastern Africa (also Senegambia and Guinea-Bissau), Middle East, India and southern China.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Forms a superspecies with Rock Martin (Hirundo fuligula) and Dusky Crag Martin (Ptyonoprogne concolor) and all three have been considered conspecific, but breeding ranges overlap. Birds from central Asia and southern Morocco proposed respectively as subspecies centralasica and theresae on basis of size, but variation not constant.
