Subspecies
Sometimes thought to form a superspecies with Bay-backed Shrike (Lanius vittatus), the two being separated geographically by R Brahmaputra.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
collurioides Lesson, 1834 - Breeds Myanmar (south to central Tenasserim), southern China (western and central Yunnan east to southern Guizhou and south-western Guangdong), north-western and western Thailand, Laos, eastern Cambodia and northern Vietnam.
nigricapillus Delacour, 1926 - South-central and southern Vietnam (southern from Da Lat Plateau).
