Subspecies

Subspecies roberti sometimes given species status, based upon differences in bill and rectrix colour.

The following 6 subspecies are recognised:

  • maculicauda Griscom, 1932   -  Pacific slope of Costa Rica.
  • furvescens Wetmore, 1967   -  Pacific slope of western Panama.
  • saturatior (Hartert, 1901)   -  Coiba I (Panama).
