Subspecies
Formerly considered conspecific with Plum-headed Parakeet (Psittacula cyanocephala), and listed as subspecies rosa of Plum-headed Parakeet (Psittacula cyanocephala) (Boddaert, 1783).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

roseata Biswas, 1951 - Western Bengal, Bhutan, northern Assam, Bangladesh and northern Myanmar.
juneae Biswas, 1951 - Southern Assam and southern Myanmar east through Thailand to Indochina. Also possibly southern China, with a 19th century record based on juveniles that might have been P. finschi.
