Habitat
Arid to semi-arid open deciduous pine-oak woodland, oak woodland, chaparral, and pinyon-juniper vegetation, often near water. From sea-level - 2,500 m.
Mexico (B), USA (B).
Breeds south-western USA (California) and extreme north-western Mexico (northern Baja California). Non-breeding eastern and south to southern Arizona and north-western Mexico (northern Sonora).
 
Population
Estimated population is 150,000 (2010).
