Subspecies
Putative subspecies grandis (from Yunnan, in southern China) considered indistinguishable from henrici.
The following 7 subspecies are recognised:
griseiceps (Hume, 1873) - Southern Myanmar (Pegu Yomas). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Grey-crowned Bulbul (Alophoixus griseiceps).
henrici (Oustalet, 1896) - Southern China (southern Yunnan east to eastern Guangxi), northern Thailand, northern and central Laos and northern Vietnam (Tonkin).
pallidus (Swinhoe, 1870) - Hainan.
isani (Deignan, 1956) - North-eastern Thailand.
annamensis (Delacour & Jabouille, 1924) - Central Vietnam (northern and central Annam).
khmerensis (Deignan, 1956) - Southern Laos, Cambodia (except south-west) and central Vietnam (central and southern Annam).
