Habitat
Primary pre-montane, wet forest, forest borders and in secondary vegetation near mountain gorges, but not usually within secondary forest. From 1,500 - 1,820 m.
Northern and north-eastern slopes of Cordillera Central of Colombia (east of Nechí Valley, in Antioquia).
Population
Estimated population is 1,000 - 2,499 (2010) and decreasing.
Status CR
Habitat destruction and degradation through mining and conversion to agriculture is the main threat.

Food
Small to medium-sized berries. Occasionally, large invertebrates.

Probably most closely related to Dusky Piha (Lipaugus fuscocinereus).
Similar Species
Most closely resembles Dusky Piha (Lipaugus fuscocinereus), although the latter species is larger, has a grey crown, and lacks the yellow orbital ring.
