These three are considered to belong to a clade that also includes Creamy-bellied Antwren (Herpsilochmus motacilloides) and Ash-throated Antwren (Herpsilochmus parkeri). Although no geographical subspecies described, plumage and vocal variations exist across its extensive range. Further research is required.
