Habitat
Dense forests and edge of woodlands with plenty of bushes. From sea-level - 1,200 m.

Range (Guide)

Cuba (B) (NB).

Vagrant to Bahamas.

Cuba and I of Pines.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction and modification through convertion to cultivation and pasture for cattle is the main threat.

Subspecies
Genus sometimes expanded to include all species currently placed in Archilochus, Calypte and Stellula. In contrast, present species has often been transferred to genus Calypte.
