Estimated population is 250 - 999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status EN
Forest destruction and degradation through clearing for cash crops, hunting, are the main threats.

A peculiar humming. Loud flapping noises are made by the modified flight feathers.

Uncertain systematic affinities. Possibly closely related to Heliactin and Heliothryx.
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Booted Racquet-tail (Ocreatus underwoodii) which is much greener with a rounded head.
