Habitat
Lowland and highland Atlantic forest and ecotones between this forest and grasslands (southern Misiones) and cerrado (Paraguay). From sea-level - 2,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Argentina (B), Brazil (B), Paraguay (B).

Eastern Brazil from Bahia south to eastern Paraguay and northern Argentina.

Population
Estimated population is 1,000 - 2,499 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction, illegal nest poaching, persecution as a crop pest, are the main threats.

Voice
High-pitched and nasal, warbled 'cr�u' or 'rac-rac', and hollow 'cr�u' calls when perched.

Similar Species
Red-browed Amazon (Amazona rhodocorytha) has blue in face and lacks lilac breast. Red-spectacled Amazon (Amazona pretrei) has more extensive red on head and wings.
