Ac-ro-ceph'-a-lus - Gk, acros, high; Gk, cephale, head: or-i-en-tal'-is - L., of the East

Habitat
Dense reed-beds, cane grass, cumbungi, sedges, waterside scrub and mangroves.

Range (Guide)
Breeds central Mongolia and south-eastern Russia (south-western Transbaikalia east to lower R Amur) south to northern and eastern China (eastern from eastern Xinjiang, south to Fujian), Korea, Sakhalin I and Japan. Non-breeding mainly south-eastern Asia to Greater Sundas, Philippines and Wallacea.
 
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2012).

Voice
A loud, harsh, 'chack'. Song is a hard, guttural, croaking.

Nest
Among reeds about 1 - 1.5 m above the ground.

Eggs (Guide)
2 - 6. Incubation: 12 - 14 days.

Young
Fledge in about 10 - 15 days.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Often considered conspecific with Great Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus). However, recent studies support treatment as distinct species, and suggest also that it is more likely to have derived from Clamorous Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus stentoreus).
