Nest
A depression in the ground, loosely lined with strips of bark and dead leaves, usually sheltered by a dead bush.
Eggs (Guide)
Usually 2; white, spotted with shades of brown and lavender; oval to oblong-oval; about 30 x 21 mm.
Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in more than 12 days. Fed by both parents.
Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
castanotum Gould, 1840 - Malleee of central New South Wales and Murray - Mallee of New South Wales - Vic - SA, west to Yorke Peninsula and Flinders Ranges, SA.
clarum Morgan, 1926 - Central and central-western Australia, in the area bounded by Shark Bay, north to central WA and southern Gibson Desert, and the centralian ranges, NT, east to the western fringes of the Simpson Desert and Lake Eyre Basin, SA and south to northern Eyre Peninsula, northern fringes of the Nullarbor Plain and northern Goldfields region, WA. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Copperback Quail-thrush (Cinclosoma clarum).
fordianum Schodde and Mason, 1999 - Far south-western SA and southern edge of Nullarbor Plain, west to southern Wheatbelt of south-western WA, to about Lake Moore - Broome Hill. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Copperback Quail-thrush (Cinclosoma clarum).
