Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with African Citril (Crithagra citrinelloides). Has been treated as conspecific with Papyrus Canary (Crithagra koliensis).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
capistratus (Finsch and Hartlaub, 1870) - Central and south-western Gabon and southern PRCongo east, discontinuously, to eastern DRCongo and western Burundi and south, very locally, to northern Angola, south-eastern DRCongo and northern Zambia.
