Central and north-eastern Angola (eastern Benguela and northern Hu��la east to Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul and Moxico), south-eastern DRCongo (upper Katanga, Marungu Mts), Zambia (south to Balovale and Serenje, east to Luangwa Rift) and south-western Tanzania (Sumbawanga).

Birds of south-eastern DRCongo and north-western Zambia have been separated as subspecies venustula but doubtfully distinct.
