Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland dry grassland, dry savanna, dry forest. From sea-level - 1,500 m.

Range (Guide)

Angola, Namibia.

Vagrant to Botswana (B).

South-western Angola and northern and central Namibia.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Status LC
Trapping for the cage-bird trade is the main threat.

Habits
Generally stays near water, in small flocks up to 20 birds. Larger numbers where food plentiful.

Food
Various plant parts, including buds, shoots, nectar, flowers, seeds, pods, fruit. Also melon, insect larvae.

Voice
Screeches and squauwks similar to that of Meyer's Parrot (Poicephalus meyeri). Monotonous, quick and sharp notes. Alarm calls shrieks increasing in pitch.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Meyer's Parrot (Poicephalus meyeri), Brown-headed Parrot (Poicephalus cryptoxanthus) and Niam-niam Parrot (Poicephalus crassus), and possibly others.

No subspecies.
