Habitat
Lowland forest. From sea-level - 300 m.
Indonesia (B).
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Forest loss and degradation through logging and agricultural encroachment, combined with its restriction to the lowlands, is the main threat.

Subspecies
Subspecies pelingensis apparently based on slight variation in plumage following ageing of collected skins, and subsolanus based on description of a single specimen now lost. Further clarification is required.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- subsolanus (Hartert, 1898) - Eastern Sulawesi.
- pelingensis Vaurie, 1952 - Peleng, in Banggai Is.
- colonus E. J. O. Hartert, 1898 - Sula Is.
