Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist lowland forest. From sea-level - 700 m.
Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, Venezuela.
Eastern Venezuela (eastern Bolívar east of R Caroní), the Guianas and extreme north-eastern Amazonian Brazil (north-eastern Pará and Amapá).

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Appears to form a superspecies with Ancient Antwren (Herpsilochmus gentryi ). Similarity of vocalizations have suggested to some that both are closely related to the Bahia Antwren (Herpsilochmus pileatus ) group.
No subspecies.
