Habitat
Subtropical and tropical high altitude shrubland. From 900 - 3,000 m.
Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela.
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Often treated as sole member of present genus, but no evidence in external morphology for treatment in a different genus from those species traditionally placed in Acestrura.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- jourdanii (Bourcier, 1839) - Trinidad and north-eastern Venezuela (mountains of Cumaná).
- rosae (Bourcier & Mulsant, 1846) - Highlands of northern Venezuela (Zulia to Distrito Federal).
- andinus Phelps & Phelps Jr, 1949 - Andes of Venezuela (Lara to Táchira) and eastern Andes of northern Colombia.
