Subspecies
Population of north-western Afghanistan has been separated in subspecies bendi, although usually included within incognitus.
The following 6 subspecies are recognised:
sewerzowi Zarudny, 1910 - Tien Shan Mts north to Zaysan (eastern Kazakhstan) and east to eastern Xinjiang (north-western China).
incognitus Zarudny, 1911 - Mountains of southern Tadjikistan and northern Afghanistan.
himalayensis Gray, 1843 - Eastern Afghanistan east to Ladakh (north-western India) and Nepal.
grombczewskii Bianchi, 1898 - Central-western China, in western Kunlun Mts, northern Tibet and southern Xinjiang.
koslowi Bianchi, 1898 - West-central China, in Nan Shan and Ching Hai Ku Mts of Qinghai and southern Gansu.
sauricus Potapov, 1993 - Tarbagatai Mts. (eastern Kazakhstan, western China).
