Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Chestnut-crowned Warbler (Phylloscopus castaniceps) and Javan Warbler (Phylloscopus grammiceps), although overlaps in range with both to limited extent.
The following 7 subspecies are recognised:
davisoni (Sharpe, 1888) - Breeds southern China (northern, western and central Yunnan), northern, eastern and southern Myanmar, northern and central Thailand, northern and central Laos and central Vietnam. Non-breeding in central and southern parts of range. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of White-tailed Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus intensior).
inornatus (Robinson and Kloss, 1920) - Breeds Ural Mountains east to Sea of Okhotsk, Mongolia, and Manchuria (and possibly northern Korea). Winters from Nepal and Bangladesh east to southern China, Hainan, Andaman Islands, Thailand, Mayala, and southeast Asia. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Yellow-browed Warbler (Phylloscopus inornatus).
montis (Sharpe, 1887) - Borneo.
xanthopygius (Whitehead, J, 1893) - Western Philippines (Palawan).
floris (Hartert, 1897) - Flores, in west-central Lesser Sundas. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Timor Leaf-Warbler (Phylloscopus presbytes).
