Black – White-winged Fairy-wren, Peron Peninsula WA

We thought these shots of a Black – White-winged Fairy-wren, might be enjoyed by many birders as they were taken on the mainland 8th November 2007.

Hazel & I were birding on Peron Peninsula WA and had been on the Eagle Bluff board walk and decided to have lunch by the Lagoon down from the boardwalk on the northern side of the road (about 18km south of Denham). We had settled down to our lunch in air-conditioned comfort when we noticed a party of uncoloured Fairy-wrens coming from the west. Suddenly the coloured male came into view. The lunch went in all directions as I grabbed the camera got the window down and fired off a few shots, no composing a shot under the circumstances. It was all over in a few seconds as they disappeared eastwards. It was one of those rare moments of excitement when nothing but the bird mattered. Hope you can enjoy the pictures. We had the moment.
