Habitat
Mainly sclerophyll forests and woodlands dominated by eucalypt. Also in mangroves, rainforests and ecotone between rainforest and eucalypt forest.

Range (Guide)

Admiralty Is (Manus, Los Negros).

Habits
Usually singly or in twos, possibly pairs, occasionally small groups of up to 12 or more, particularly in the non-breeding season.

Food
Insects and their larvae, procured among the leaves of trees or on the wing, berries.

Nest
Small, flattish, composed of grass and fine twigs, bound with cobwebs, on a horizontal fork of a tree, usually high up.

Eggs (Guide)
2 or 3; green with brown and grey markings; oblong-oval; about 30 x 22 mm. Incubation: about 20 days; by both sexes.

Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in about 22 days. Fed by both parents.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Forms a superspecies with White-rumped Cuckooshrike (Coracina leucopygia) and White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike (Coracina papuensis). Until recently, normally regarded as a subspecies of latter, but differs notably in large size, stout bill and more slaty coloration, and probably more appropriately treated as a distinct species.

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike (Coracina papuensis).
