Subspecies
Alcippe cinereiceps (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Manipur Fulvetta (Fulvetta manipurensis), Manipur Fulvetta (Fulvetta manipurensis) and Taiwan Fulvetta (Fulvetta formosana) following Collar (2006).
Formerly treated as conspecific with Manipur Fulvetta (Fulvetta manipurensis) and Taiwan Fulvetta (Fulvetta formosana), but these exhibit considerable differences. Subspecies fucata and guttaticollis may represent two additional species. Further study is required.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
fessa Bangs & Peters, JL, 1928 - Central China (southern Ningxia south to southern Gansu, southern Shaanxi and extreme northern Sichuan).
cinereiceps (Verreaux, 1870) - North-eastern, central and southern Sichuan south to western Guizhou (south-central China).
fucata (Styan, 1899) - Western Hubei south to northern Guizhou, north-eastern Guangxi and south-eastern Hunan (eastern China).
guttaticollis (La Touche, 1897) - South-eastern China from north-western Fujian south to northern Guangdong.
