Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,500 - 2,500 m, occasionally 1,400 - 3,300 m.

Range (Guide)

Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela.

Sierra de Perij� (Colombia / Venezuela border), and Andes of western Venezuela (southern from Trujillo) south to Colombia (Norte de Santander; locally in western and central ranges), Ecuador (southern on western slope to Pichincha, on eastern slope locally to Loja), and on eastern slope south to Peru (on Piura�"Cajamarca border, and locally from Amazonas south to Hu�nuco).

Subspecies
Genus has sometimes been merged with Euphonia. Recent molecular-genetic analysis indicates that both genera belong in family Fringillidae.
