Subspecies
Genus has sometimes been placed in Coerebidae or Parulidae, but molecular-genetic data indicate that it belongs in present family, with Oreomanes as sister-group.

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

pallidum Aveledo & Perez, 1989 - Sierra de Perij� (Cerro Viruela), in north-western Venezuela, and probably also in adjacent Colombia.
intermedium von Berlepsch, 1893 - Andes in Venezuela (Trujillo, M�rida and northern T�chira).
sitticolor Lafresnaye, 1840 - Andes in Venezuela (southern T�chira), and from Colombia south to northern Peru (Piura, Cajamarca and Amazonas).
cyaneum Taczanowski, 1875 - Andes of Peru (from Hu�nuco) south to Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba and western Santa Cruz).
