Subspecies
Genus for many years subsumed into Loxops, and later merged into Viridonia or an enlarged Hemignathus. Previously considered conspecific with Kauai Amakihi (Chlorodrepanis stejnegeri) and Hawaii Amakihi (Chlorodrepanis virens).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Male with Oahu Alauahio (Paroreomyza maculata) which has a straight bill, bold yellow stripe over eye and dark stripe through eye. Female has dark line behind eye only and pale lores, and with introduced Japanese White-eye (Zosterops japonicus) which has a straight bill, bold white eye-ring.
