Habitat
Temperate forest. From 1,500 - 2,500 m, occasionally 700 - 3,300 m.

Andorra (B) (NB), Austria (B) (NB), Czech Republic (B), France (B) (NB) (P), Germany (B), Italy (B) (NB), Liechtenstein (B), Macedonia [The Former Yugoslav Republic of] (NB), Montenegro (B), Portugal (NB), Serbia (B), Slovakia (Slovak Republic), Slovenia (B), Spain (B) (NB), Switzerland (B) (NB).

Vagrant to Belgium, Poland.

Northern and central Spain east, discontinuously, to southern France, northern Italy, southern Germany, eastern Austria and Slovenia.

Estimated population is 750,000 - 960,000 (2011).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Serinus citrinella (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into citrinella and corsicana following Sangster et al. (2002) and moved to the genus Carduelis following Dickinson (2003).

Previously placed in genus Serinus. Until recently considered conspecific with Corsican Finch (Carduelis corsicana), but differs in mitochondrial DNA, morphology, habitat selection and voice.
