Subspecies
Proposed subspecies occidentis (from Hellwig Mts, on southern slopes of Snow Mts) regarded as a synonym of olivacea.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
olivacea van Oort, 1910 - Western New Guinea (Weyland Mts and Snow Mts). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Western Crested Berrypecker (Paramythia olivacea).
alpina Salomonsen, 1961 - Area surrounding Mt Wilhelmina (= Mt Trikora) and Mt Carstenz (= Mt Jaya), on upper slopes of Snow Mts (Nassau Range), in western New Guinea.
montium De Vis, 1892 - Mountains of central, eastern and south-eastern New Guinea (eastern from Star Mts).
brevicauda Mayr and Gilliard, 1954 - Mountains of Huon Peninsula, in north-eastern New Guinea.
