Subspecies
Appears to be closely related to Rusty-fronted Barwing (Actinodura egertoni). Individuals of this species present in northern Thailand and northern and central Laos (like yunnanensis but greyer above, with buffy rufous restricted to forehead) evidently represent an undescribed subspecies.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
radcliffei Harington, 1910 - East-central and eastern Myanmar. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Eastern Spectacled Barwing (Actinodura radcliffei).
ramsayi (Walden, 1875) - South-eastern Myanmar and north-western Thailand.
yunnanensis Bangs & Phillips, JC, 1914 - Southern China (south-eastern Yunnan, south-western Guizhou, western Guangxi) and northern Vietnam (Tonkin). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Bar-throated Minla (Chrysominla strigula).
