Habitat
Moist, dense scrub in rocky ravines. In winter, in bamboo and undergrowth of primary evergreen forest on rocky hillsides. From 400 - 900 m, occasionaly up to 1,800 m.
Extreme north-eastern India (south-eastern Arunachal Pradesh and adjacent eastern Assam) and adjacent northern Myanmar.

Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation as a result of commercial logging, clearance for tea cultivation and shifting agriculture are all possible threats.

Habits
In winter in monospecific flocks of up to 20 individuals. It is quite vocal, but wary and skulking.
