Subspecies
Stachyris plateni (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Mindanao Pygmy Babbler (Dasycrotapha plateni) and Visayan Pygmy Babbler (Dasycrotapha pygmaea) following Collar (2006).
Until recently considered conspecific with Visayan Pygmy Babbler (Dasycrotapha pygmaea).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Small size and streaking on throat and white belly separate it from Brown Tit-Babbler (Macronus striaticeps). Black-crowned Babbler (Sterrhoptilus nigrocapitatus) and Rusty-crowned Babbler (Sterrhoptilus capitalis) differ in yellow throat colouring.
